Dragon’s Dogma 2: How To Cure Dragonsplague

The Pawn system in DD2 has lots of depth, with players able to make their own Pawn along with summoning other players, with all sorts of details making every summon unique. For the most part, summoning a Pawn is a straightforward process, giving you an additional party member for however long the player would like.

While exploring with Pawns, players may hear one talk about a disease that Pawns can pick up beyond the rift and transfer to other Pawns. This rumor is very true and can have devastating consequences for any unprepared party.

What Is Dragonsplague

The Arisen Leading Some Pawns

Dragonsplague is a real disease that any Pawn can get, with it passing randomly to another Pawn in the party or progressing within the original Pawn. There’s no simple way of identifying if one of your Pawns has it. The disease doesn’t spread, and more so transfers from one Pawn to another, with passing it curing the original host.

Despite the hidden and difficult-to-understand nature of this disease, it can be incredibly dangerous and may end up with dozens of NPCs killed in a town if left untreated. Dragonsplague originally comes from Pawns fighting Drakes, and close contact may result in natural Dragonsplague, with them being summoned to another world, transferring the infection.

How To Identify Dragonsplague

The Arisen Sending Pawn Ahead First

Pawns affected by Dragonsplague will become more agitated and won’t listen to the Arisen’s commands. Always listen to what your Pawns say as they talk while exploring, as those afflicted by Dragonsplague will be more aggressive, taunting, and less devoted to the Arisen. To further help identify Dragonsplague, constantly issue your Pawns commands in combat and watch to make sure all obey. Should one not obey, be sure to make a note and begin treatment right away.

How To Treat Dragonsplague

The Player Dismissing A Pawn

Should a summoned Pawn be afflicted with Dragonsplague, dismiss them right away. Be sure in that time before you dismiss them they don’t pass it on to your main Pawn, as curing them is much more difficult.

Should your main Pawn be afflicted, the only way to cure them is to pass the disease along to another Pawn or death. Passing the disease along is risky, as it doesn’t always happen, and leaving an infected in your party increases the chances of the disease progressing. The other option is death, not just going down, but complete death. Should your main Pawn fully die, they can easily be respawned at any Riftstone, but this is, unfortunately, the only sure cure for Dragonsplague.

What Happens If Dragonsplague Progresses

A Pawn Being Effected By Dragonsplague

Every second a Pawn has Dragonsplague, the disease will progress and grow. The exact timeline isn’t clear and seems to vary, but one of the next times players stay at an Inn with a Pawn who has Dragonsplague, a cutscene will play where they will turn into a shadowy dragon-like creature and off-screen and go on a rampage through the town. The Arisen will wake up the following morning to see dozens of dead NPCs throughout the town, with important story and quest NPCs being at equal risk.

While it is possible to revive NPCs, this many dying at once can pose a problem. Fixing the problems of an afflicted Pawn will require an incredible amount of Wakestone shards to create enough Wakestones.
